Six athletes on Concordia’s women’s soccer team received Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference awards.
Juniors Libby Fresndal, Laura Prosinski and Elizabeth Robinson made All-Conference.
Marta Prosinski and Jamie St. Germain were All-Conference Honorable Mentions, and Jessica Scherr was awarded the All-MIAC Sportsmanship award.
This season was a season of transition, with a new head coach and many seniors having graduated last year. The amount of awards received indicates a successful season for the team.
“Going into it, I think people had doubts, but we stepped up and got past (the challenges),” Robinson said.
Teamwork is important to these athletes. They thank their teammates and coaches for helping them succeed.
“Getting these awards just shows the talent that we have on the team (and) … shows how we can distribute the talent,” Scherr said.
The girls who received awards were very proud of their fellow awarded teammates.
“I think everyone deserves every award that they got,” said Marta Prosinski.
Not only do the girls appreciate what they do together on the field, they really enjoy each other’s company.
“I love being around the team,” Scherr said. “Being able to play something with a bunch of friends … just makes it that much better.”
The athletes reminisced on the season.
Laura Prosinski remembered the re-match against Augsburg as a favorite memory of the season.
Marta Prosinski enjoyed the teams’ trip to Chicago.
Scherr is going to miss the team as she graduates.
The season wrapped up with an 11-7-1 record. The team made it to the playoffs but lost to St. Ben’s in the semi-finals.
“Looking back, I’m proud of how we played,” said Laura Prosinski. “We didn’t get as far as we would have liked, but it’s still something to be proud of.”
