MOORHEAD— On Oct. 21, 2024, Concordia Marketing in Communications department, also known as MarCom, sent a Cobweb notification to all students.
“Does your department or student org run a social media account representing Concordia,” the Cobweb stated, “we want to know about it!”
The plan, according to the message, was to provide resources to all Concordia College student organizations.
According to Kelly Heyer, director of Marketing, there was a document that had information on all active social media accounts for campus organizations and who ran them. Within the past few years, it became increasingly hard to stay up to date on all of the new accounts.
“So many amazing things happen at Concordia, both in and out of the classroom, that we would love to lift up and share but it’s hard when we don’t know they are happening,” Heyer said, “We felt we could help provide some support or resources to these accounts to help lift up the Concordia brand and really showcase the Concordia experience.”
This new program that MarCom is hoping to roll out would include brand resources, Canva templates, and offer some tips and tricks that they have learned along the way. Heyer also stressed the need for a way to connect quickly with social media managers in case of a need for mass communication.
“We know that social media can be an effective tool in quickly communicating any public safety information,” said Heyer.
Another large portion that Heyer wants to stress is collaboration between organizations.
“We already reach out to students to do student takeovers on our accounts, but I could see more of that happening with these groups,” said Heyer.
Heyer also pushed for collaboration within departments.
“When Concordia’s Nursing Program was named #1 in Minnesota, it would have been great to lift it up in collaboration with the Student Nurses Association and with Sanford Heimarck School of Health Professions.”
Heyer hopes that this new program will be helpful for all social media managers, whether it is they have expansive knowledge or if their experience is limited. They currently have resources that outline the college’s social media goals and tips for getting started.
“We’ve presented to groups and classes if they’ve requested,” said Heyer, “I would also encourage anyone to reach out to me if they have questions and we’d love to help. My email is heyer@cord.edu.”
To get involved within the process, students can email marcom@cord.edu or heyer@cord.edu.
