Kernel Cobb represented Concordia at the 4th Annual Salvation Army Mascot Challenge on Saturday Dec. 3. The battle for the highest amount of donations took place in Scheels-Fargo between the Kernel, Thundar from North Dakota State University and Scorch from Minnesota State University Moorhead.

According to gocobbers.com, “The mascots from Concordia College, Minnesota State University Moorhead and North Dakota State University “battled” it out at Scheels in Fargo for several hours Saturday. The Kernel, Scorch and Thundar enthusiastically greeted shoppers, bantered with one another, and posed for pictures with fans while student-athletes and athletic department leaders rang the bells in hopes that their kettle would raise the most money.”

Thundar unfortunately pounded Kernel into the grounds with its hooves, raising a total of $1,459. Kernel managed to raise $641, making Scorch take last place with $551.

Gocobbers.com interviewed the Salvation Army Captain about the challenge.

“The Mascot Challenge was a wonderful, fun-filled and creative way for the athletic departments of our local colleges to raise funds for The Salvation Army,” said Salvation Army Capt. Bill Mealy. “We are so grateful to the mascots, the student-athletes and the athletic department leadership teams for supporting our ministry in this manner. A special thanks goes out to Scheels for hosting this annual event.”
