Experience the rumble at Thunder Road

Looking for something to do this weekend? Head on over to Fargo-Moorhead’s very own family fun park, Thunder Road. Aside from providing visitors with a 1,000-foot go kart track, this unique attraction is the perfect place to take a break from studying.

Since its opening in 2001, Thunder Road has provided guests of all ages with entertainment during the summer and early fall. Throughout the park, visitors can test their golfing skills on the 18-hole miniature golf course or enjoy some friendly competition at the laser tag attraction.

Junior Olivia Cox has grown up in Fargo/Moorhead her whole life and has been spending weekend afternoons and making memories at Thunder Road since it first opened.

“Growing up I would go there with my friends all the time,” Cox said. “We would go there a lot as a last-day-of-school-celebration, and it was always a lot of fun.”

Cox’s first trip to Thunder Road is one she will never forget. During her time at the park, Cox and her grandfather took a spin on the go karts, which turned out to be an experience neither of them expected.

“There were a bunch of high school guys trying to ram us off the road and were actually hitting our car,” Cox said. “My Grandpa got really mad; now there’s a bunch of rules at Thunder Road about bumping into other cars.”

According to Thunder Road’s manager Ally Heinen, the park has a variety of indoor and outdoor attractions awaiting guests.

“There’s the go kart track, batting cages, mini golf course and a full arcade inside,” Heinen said. “Our newest attraction is a multi-level laser tag arena that’s been really popular.”

While many of her memories of Thunder Road date back to when she was younger, Cox acknowledges that Thunder Road has only gotten better with age.

“Thunder Road should appeal to college students because it’s a lot of fun; something different to do in the F-M area,” Cox said. “A lot of people don’t know what Fargo has to offer, and Thunder Road is something that’s definitely unique.”

After hearing about Thunder Road from her roommate, senior Kara Schmidt decided to venture to the park’s mini golf attraction.

“I heard about it from my roommate and went there with an old friend when he was in town,” Schmidt said. “It was really entertaining watching him lose. I would definitely recommend it if you want to try something different.”

If you have a tight budget but are still wanting to take advantage of Thunder Road’s attractions, don’t worry. According to Heinen, Thunder Road has a lot of great deals for college students.

“There are coupons for Thunder Road in the college campus coupons book,” Heinen said. “There’s also a text club that we have for special offers: just text the word ‘thunder’ to the number 602529. Specials vary from a buy one get one deal to a free round of laser tag or any attraction of your choice.”

 

Beginning Sept. 29, Thunder Road’s hours will be as follows:

Mondays-Thursdays: Closed

Fridays: 5-9 p.m.

Saturdays: 12- 9 p.m.

Sundays: 12-6 p.m.

The last day of the season will be Oct 2 and then Thunder Road will be closed until May 2, 2015.

Lazer Tag: 10 min. rounds – $7 per round

Go-Karting: Single and Double Karts – $5 per kart
