Letters for Love and Cobber Crafts are having a collaboration. The joint event is happening September 23rd and the two clubs are coming together to make cards for sick children.
Letters for Love (LOL) was founded in 2018 by Grace Berbig. After her mother’s battle with leukemia, she started the organization in order to help people in the hospital and give them more hope to fight their battles.
Cobber Crafts was initially started by Gabriel Fritz but is also managed by Mirra Lysne, Emma Claire McColm and Kobie Van Portfliet and Briea Freeman. The club was founded to encourage people to try new crafts and foster community for crafters. in support of getting them out of their shells and find new experiences that Mirra Lysne, a head organizer, says “if you are reading this and you think oh I’m not good at crafts I’m not creative enough think again because yes you are literally everyone is creative.” which pares beautifully to what some of their members say, such as Klara Lillicrap, a new member who had to say this about the club and why she liked it. “The environment is something I really enjoy. I like being able to just show up, be creative and spend time with my friends.”
Letters for Love was added to the Concordia clubs in 2024 by a group of students who found out about the organization and fell in love with their work and projects. Letters for Love has around 100 chapters all over the US aimed at writing letters for sick children in hospitals.
Malik Smith, LOL president, says, “you don’t have to be an artist. It’s not about the art. It’s really about the message, and the message that you send”
That message is not just being reserved to the children but for the members as well. Jady Xiong says “I like letters for love is because of how encouraging it is not only for the children but the families as well. It’s small gestures of kindness like these that can really shape the world around us.”
Both coordinators not only are bringing this collaboration together to help and give to children but to also bridge the clubs together and have two spaces combine.
Mirra Lysne says, “I’ve been seeing is like there’s a specific group of people at letters for love all the time and I’m excited to see our group of people mix with that group”
Along with collaborating with each other, LOL have also collaborated with the accounting club, and they are also planning to collaborate with the Black Student Union (BSU) chapter.
Cobber Crafts has also done collaborations with Campus Events Committee (CEC) and has a future collaboration with the Student Environmental Alliance (SEA) that is coming up soon.
