One of the best things about living in Fargo-Moorhead is the vast array of businesses they have to offer. Coming from a relatively small-town of 10,000, I am amazed at the choices I have whenever I want to go shopping or go out to eat. But let’s be honest, there has always been a large burrito-sized gap in Fargo-Moorhead’s restaurant selection. The closest Chipotle is in St. Cloud as many college students are aware of. Up until now, no burrito has ever come close to the glory that is the Chipotle burrito, until I ventured to Moe’s Southwest Grill.
Holy Moe-ly! Let me tell you about this place. The atmosphere is super relaxed and it feels like you’ve wandered out of North Dakota and into someplace warm and energizing. For a short time, escape our frozen tundra and grab a gigantic burrito, or a taco, quesadilla, nachos or salad (although I will judge you a little bit if you get a salad here). You can put whatever you want on it including meat or tofu, rice, beans, queso or shredded cheese, guacamole and much more. I was overcome with excitement when I realized I could have cilantro as a topping.
I will concede that no Mexican grill will ever top Chipotle, but if you’re used to spending around $7 on just one burrito, Moe’s will blow your mind. Stop in on a Monday and get a burrito, chips and a drink for $7, or stop in any day and show your student ID to get the same deal. Talk about getting Moe’ for your money.
After you’ve paid, head over to the salsa bar and get as much salsa as you want. The selection ranges from mild to medium. None of it was terribly spicy or super flavorful, but if we’re talking about all-you-can-eat salsa then I won’t complain.
One thing I respect about Chipotle is their dedication to responsibly-sourcing their products. Their meat is free range and naturally raised and it seems that they take great pride in providing quality ingredients. I can’t verify that Moe’s follows Chipotle exactly in this way, but they claim to use grass-fed animals, which is a wonderful thing to be able to say!
I left feeling full and happy; knowing that even though Fargo-Moorhead is still sans-Chipotle, I can eat at Moe’s to tide me over until I go home.
