MOORHEAD- Cobber Football kicked off their 2025-26 season with a win on Saturday against Mayville State Illuminated by Jake Christian Stadium’s new field lights.
The College’s first ever night game proved to be an event not many students, parents and alumni planned to miss including that of Mayville State who found themselves in a packed house.
Attendance at Saturday’s game was historic with over 7,000 fans all dressed in white for the night’s white-out theme.

To prepare for the historic home opener there was a row of food stands for fans to celebrate pre-game.
“Our administration did a super job (said Concordia head coach Terry Horan) The Corn Fest, the food trucks, our parent tailgates, the games. I mean, it was a festival, and this is what a college football atmosphere needs to be like. Our kids were so happy to be a part of the great crowd tonight and certainly played a part too.”
Despite the high of Saturday night fever the Cobber’s struggled to get their offense off the ground letting the Comets draw first blood off a 28 yard field goal.
The score remained 0-3 with both teams battling to amass a lead but the real shift didn’t come
until midway in the third quarter when junior WR Davion Henderson ran an 11 yard TD off a pass from senior QB Jersey Selzler.
Unfortunately for the Comets, this was only the beginning of the Cobber’s late-game-lead making their final appearance on the score board off a 24-yard field goal.
Throughout the entire game the Cobber’s defense denied the Comets a single touchdown containing their triple option offense.
“Our D’s been playing really, really well. So really for us it’s just regrouping offensively and doing what we’re capable of doing. I mean, we certainly did that in the second half.” said Horan.
Late into the third with 2:16 left on the clock Concordia sophomore RB Mason Hughes helped push the Cobbers further ahead 6-14 off a one-yard run to the house on the second play in the fourth.

The Cobber capped the night with 17-yard field goal from Junior K/P Mitchell Druley ending the game 6-17. After shaking hands the Cobber men rushed to the stands to celebrate with the student section.
“We have great men in our program, and they continue to work hard, and they care for each other. We’re so proud of our kids for doing that, because it’s not easy to win. We did,” said Horan.
Concordia’s next game will be against St. Olaf. where The Cobber’s will travel to Northfield Saturday, Sept. 20 at 1 p.m.
