Taylor Swift’s “Era’s Tour” movie makes its debut in the Fargo-Moorhead area 

FARGO- Taylor Swift’s record breaking “Era’s Tour” movie made its debut in Marcus Theatres on Thursday, Oct. 12. The show immediately started selling out as it was announced. Luckily, my friend and THE cheer captain (if you know, you know), managed to swing tickets for us to attend the 10 p.m. showing on Friday, Oct. 13. 

If you know anything about me, I have been an avid Swift fan since before I can even remember. My parents used to play “Fearless” and “Taylor Swift” in the car and I vividly remember dancing around the living room while “Love Story” was playing. I had grown up listening to “Speak Now”, “Red” and “1989”, went through my “reputation” era when I was in middle school (as one rightfully should), and entered high school in my “Lover” era. Her last three albums, “folklore”, “evermore” and “Midnights”, however, solidified my status as a Swiftie.  

When Swift announced her 2023 Eras Tour, I knew I had to be there one way or the other. My mom and I both immediately signed up for the presale for the Minneapolis dates. We unfortunately met our matches and did not survive the Ticketmaster “Great War”. We were unable to book tickets for the US Tour.  

Many of my summer nights consisted of sitting in bed on my iPad watching the blurry livestreams of the Eras Tour just to see what she played and if she would be announcing anything that night. I had hoped that she would announce a Canadian leg or a second US leg to her tour so I would have another chance to see her live. Luckily, Swift delivered and gave us not only a Canadian leg, but also the Eras tour pro-shot at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif.  

The almost 3 hour pro-shot covers all 10 of her albums and over 40 songs. It is an experience where you can sing, dance, cry, and hear Swift’s best hits over the last 17 years. We hopped in the getaway car and drove over to Fargo to experience the Eras Tour, and Swift did not disappoint.  

“Lover”  

The Eras Tour pro-shot started with her 2019 album, Lover. Swift played “Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince”, “Cruel Summer”, “The Man”, “You Need to Calm Down” and “Lover”. It was a great start to the evening and served us some summer of 2019 nostalgia that we had all been so desperately craving.  

“Fearless”  

Up next, she then threw us back in time to 2008 with “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)”. Playing “Fearless”, “You Belong With Me”,and “Love Story”, I felt as if I was 5 years old dancing around in the living room again.  

“evermore” 

We then went into the woods and Swift casted some spells with “willow”, did a touching ode to her grandmother with “marjorie”, ripped our hearts out with “champagne problems” and threw a bottle of wine, dinnerware and a vase of flowers during “tolerate it”. This was the first time within the set list that I had let a tear out.  

“reputation” 

Following “evermore”, the screens turned black, and snakes started slithering around the stage. Sending the whole theater into our “reputation eras” with “…Ready For It?”, “Delicate”, “Don’t Blame Me” and “Look What You Made Me Do”, Swift had the whole audience singing along and participating in the “…1, 2, 3, let’s go bitch.” chant within “Delicate”. 

“Speak Now” 

Though her set list for this album only consisted of “Enchanted” in the pro-shot, it sent everyone back to 2010 and we all re-lived our whimsical early teenage love and even the non-Swifties in the crowd were singing along with the end, as it had blown up on TikTok about a year and a half ago.  

“Red”  

Being one of my favorite fall albums, “Red (Taylor’s Version)” sent us into our feral girl autumn eras with “22”, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”, “I Knew You Were Trouble” and “All Too Well (10-Minute Version)”. “Red” encapsulated all the feelings of feeling happy, free, confused, and lonely in the best way.  

“folklore”  

My favorite Taylor Swift album got so much justice with a 6 song set. I believe I cried at least four times within the 30 minutes of “folklore”. With “the 1” starting us off, followed immediately by “betty”, I knew I wasn’t going to survive. “the last great american dynasty” followed and I had held my composure. Then, we were hit with the triple whammy of “august”, “illicit affairs” and “my tears ricochet” and I was done in. Luckily, “cardigan” was cut from the setlist, so I did not have to suffer again. I was so unwell, but that did not last long, as we got welcomed to New York with:

“1989” 

My second favorite Taylor album, “1989” is full of summer hits, nostalgia, some of her most record-breaking songs. “Style”, “Blank Space”, “Shake It Off” and “Bad Blood” were the four chosen for the pro-shot, but I am very upset that “Wildest Dreams” was cut from the set. It would’ve been the perfect song to round out the upbeat nature of the other four songs.  

Surprise Songs  

There were a variety of songs that were up for contest at SoFi Stadium. Swift chooses two songs that are not within the set and plays one on the guitar and the other on the piano. Each night, two songs are selected and many are not repeated again. We had the possibilities of “I Can See You”, “Maroon”, “Our Song”, “You Are in Love”, “Death by a Thousand Cuts” and “You’re on Your Own, Kid”.  

Her two surprise songs encapsulated her first and her last album, as she gave us “Our Song” from her debut album, and “You’re on Your Own, Kid” from Midnights. These two songs perfectly rounded out the pro-shot and gave us the debut representation that we all needed. She then dove into the stage and moved onto her last era of the night.  

“Midnights”  

Giving us 7 songs from the masterpiece that is “Midnights”, Swift gave us some of the coolest imagery and lyricism with “Lavender Haze”, “Anti-Hero”, “Midnight Rain”, “Vigilante Shit”, “Bejeweled”, “Mastermind” and “Karma”. I personally loved the diversity of the setlist within “Midnights” and the various costumes worn within the era.  

Overall, I think that the “Eras Tour” is a must-see for avid Swifties or casual enjoyers of her music. You will leave with a pep in your step and a newfound appreciation for not only Swift, but for all the work that goes into creating a concert. Swift’s dancers showed extreme talent with being able to switch styles countless times throughout the 3 hours of music.
