Dearest Cobbers,
For those of you who have amazingly evaded any information about Celebration of Student Scholarship, CoSS, up until this point, I am here to tell you that it is an amazing opportunity to check out the research and creative activities done by our fellow Cobbers, and it is fast approaching! After experiencing this event last year, I strongly advise each and every one of you Cobbs to attend this event on Wednesday, April 9. This should not be too difficult as all classes are suspended for the day. When you attend, you may learn something new about your peers and yourself!
As a first time participant in the Celebration of Student Scholarship, I would also like to give you a little insight on what my preparation up to this point has entailed! Last summer I was given the opportunity to conduct research here on campus, and much of my decision to become involved in summer research stemmed from attending Celebration of Student Scholarship. I was totally blown away by some of the projects that our peers presented. They were all so unique and scholarly! And of course, the performances were nothing less than impeccable, which is exactly what you would expect from the talented students here at Concordia. CoSS embodies something that can inspire students from any discipline within the college to get involved in whatever it is that they are passionate about. I speak from experience!
My summer research experience here at Concordia was amazing. I worked with a faculty mentor and 2 other undergraduates on a project that we all agreed upon. Going into research, I had no idea if I would even enjoy it, but I came out with a clearer view of my future and a stronger appreciation for the scientific community in general. I learned so much, and it was truly an experience that I could not have gotten in the classroom. I am so thankful I was given the opportunity to find something that I had no idea I was passionate about.
Now, here I am. I have gone full circle, and I am going to present my research at the same event that inspired me to become involved in the first place! I highly encourage you to attend all of the sessions you are able to because you never know what you can learn from your fellow scholars. And who knows, maybe you will be presenting at Celebration of Student Scholarship next year! Make it a great day, Cobbs.
