Symposium Staged Reading
Sept 15
As a part of the 2014 Symposium on “Sustainability: Local Action | Global Impact,” Concordia Theatre will be sponsoring a staged reading of Cherrie Moraga’s “Heroes and Saints.” The play tells the story of Mexican immigrants who are employed at barely survival wages to labor in fields poisoned by pesticides in California’s central valley. Their beat-up, neglected government homes are built over dumps where toxic waste poisons their drinking water. This community has suffered greatly, including a high incidence of cancer (especially in the children), birth defects, and other various illnesses related to the intake of toxic substances over a substantial period of time.
Night of Naturalism

The season will begin in October with “A Night of Naturalism,” two student directed one-act plays from the Naturalist period of theatre. “On the High Road” by Anton Chekhov and “Miss Julie” by August Strindberg offer audiences realistic perspectives on marriage, gender, and social class. Each will be presented each night as a one-act play with a brief intermission between the two shows.
Les Misérables

Concordia Theatre is proud to present the Fargo-Moorhead debut of the full performance of the Tony Awarding-winning and world renowned “Les Misérables” by Claude-Michel Schönberg, Alain Boublil and Herbert Kretzmer.
Jean Valjean, prisoner 24601, has been released on parole by policeman Javert after 19 years in prison. When everyone else refuses him help, a kindly bishop offers food and a bed to Valjean, who returns the kindness by stealing his silverware. In his attempted escape, Valjean is captured by policemen and returned to the bishop, who claims the silver was a gift. With this act of grace, Valjean is sworn to lead an honest life and commits himself to helping those around them no matter what the price.
The Metal Children

In a small town in the heartland of America, A struggling author finds himself in a small town “in the heartland” of America after his book has been heavily censored from its high school curriculum and locked away. Based on playwright Adam Rapp’s own experiences with the banning of his novel in Reading, PA, “The Metal Children” examines moral duty and the role of censorship in literature for today’s youth.
Blithe Spirit
Apr 16-19
While researching his next book, novelist Charles Condomine hires an eccentric medium to make contact with the dead. Unfortunately, she summons the ghost of his first wife who grows insanely jealous of his current marriage.
“Blithe Spirit” by Noel Coward contains the twists, turns, and floating vases that will have audiences laughing all the way to the grave and back again.
Songs for a New World
Apr 27
Spring semester, Concordia Theatre will produce its first Staged Concert. Written by composer and lyricist Jason Robert Brown, “Songs for a New World” is a song cycle that features music about various moments of life, including struggles, love, and hope.
