The leaves are falling, people are talking about apple cider and pumpkins, and the weather cannot decide if it will be cool and beautiful or cold and rainy: Fall. There are so many activities that come along with fall that there is not enough time to fully enjoy them all. This weekend I extending Homecoming just a little further by visiting the North Dakota Carriage Company just outside of Fargo and it has become a must on my fall list.
The North Dakota Carriage Company has a farm about 15 minutes from Concordia where you can fully enjoy fall. The main highlight is the pumpkin patch. A fence surrounds an abundance of pumpkins all different shapes and sizes. They are the snowflakes of fall, and they are not a bad deal. At $6.00 for a large pumpkin and only $1 for three mini pumpkins and gourds, it is possible to decorate your living space for just a little price.
But, the farm wasn’t just home to the bright orange pumpkins; there were so many other activities. Two corn mazes were available; a big maze for the older visitors that took about 20 minutes and a mini maze for the young children. There was also a short hayride that shows the expanse of the big maze and allows another view of the farm. But, if corn and hay isn’t your thing, there were all kinds of animals. The usual cows, chickens, and mules are present, but they also have two white alpacas. Don’t like animals either? Well then there is a craft shed, a corntire (a sandbox only with corn and a tractor tire), and concessions shed with delicious apple cider. Not only that but games and picture opportunities fill the huge space. You can play a round of mini golf, or giant connect four. Then run over to a 2D western village and take pictures with your face on a wanted poster or a vampire’s body.
There is so much to do that the $6 entrance fee is a small price. Especially since there are days like Five-dollar Fridays, and other offers that vary. You can find those at their website here. The only thing that might take away from the experience is the mud. It is all over the place, so boots are a good idea. Fall is here; why not go enjoy everything about it in one place for a small price?
